There’s an article in this quarter’s UUWorld about everyday ceremonies… the practice of celebrating and acknowledging those small things that are the joys of life, that so often get pushed aside by meetings and duties and schedules and errands. The article included a prayer which I thought particularly lovely.
Prayer
Edward C. Lynn
We breathe in faith
and exhale hopelessness
We breathe in gratitude
and exhale indifference
We breathe in beauty
and exhale insensitivity
We breathe in joy
and exhale sadness
We breathe in kindness
and exhale harshness
We breathe in forgiveness
and exhale resentment
We breathe in love
and exhale isolation.

That’s a nice mantra to repeat and let sink into the core of us.
Thanks!
I’ve heard something similar before…I don’t think it was the same one. But the first part of the one I heard was about breathing in faith and breathing out fear. I use that one during turbulence on airplanes …
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I have just recently started going to a Unitarian Chapel and things are still a little different but I think I have found my home.
