That’s a GREAT illustration. For me, those ticks can represent at least three different diabetes related counts.
Is it an etching?
Thank.

Beth, this is simply gorgeous. I’d love to post this picture on my site, if you wouldn’t mind. Such a poignant image!

This is so symbolic of our lives. I love the light surrounded by shadow, the hands splayed open. Just perfect.
Thanks, Beth 🙂

Wow – I liked this print a lot before I knew the inspiration for your etching.
As it turns out, in addition to an interest in printmaking, I also have diabetes in common with you. It runs in my family. I have type II diabetes, and my father, type I.
Your etching is that much more personal and engaging with the backstory! Glad I tracked you back to here! What will you title it?

Thanks everyone. I am so moved by all of the posts today, and am impressed and inspired by everyone who stepped up to Raise Their Voice.
For those who asked, the image above is an etching. It’s made with open bite, hard ground, and aquatint. I haven’t editioned it yet, but I will.
Eraethil: woops, I try to keep the print blog and diabetes blog seperate, but in this case I guess my mistake was a good thing! I’m type 1 and adopted so who knows about family history, and my father-in-law is type 2. It is a frustrating and overwhelming illness at times, but I am so very grateful that it is also an illness that can be controlled.
Here’s to a cure, for both types.
